Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream

Fudgy, smooth chocolate ice cream with chunks of Oreo.
This recipe has deep rich chocolate flavor, and it’s super fun to make at home.
It reminds me of Chocolate, Chocolate Cookie ice cream that Ben and Jerry’s discontinued.
You can see a tutorial video below.

Ingredients

Instructions

In a heatproof bowl combine egg yolks and half of sugar.
Set this mixture aside.

In a saucepan combine cocoa powder and sugar.
Mix to combine, slowly add in the milk and mix it with the cocoa powder and sugar until it forms a paste.
Add in the heavy cream salt and mix well.
Heat the mixture on medium high heat until you can see steam rising from the pot.

Take the steaming chocolate mixture and slowly add ¼ cup of it into the egg yolks while whisking rapidly.
Continue to gradually add in the chocolate mixture while stirring rapidly, until half of it has been added in.
Take the egg yolk/chocolate mixture and pour it back into the pot.
Heat the pot on medium to high heat, stirring until it starts to bubble.
Once the mixture is bubbling, stir it rapidly and allow it to bubble and thicken for a minute.
Then, pull it off of the heat and allow it to cool a bit.
Then pour it into the ice cream cylinder and cool it in the fridge overnight.
In the morning pull out the cooled ice cream and run it in the ice cream machine.
Once the ice cream is thick enough, stir in the vanilla, and then the cut up Oreos.
Store in the freezer to allow it to harden for a few hours.
